As a volunteer run museum we don't open every day. For 2023 our season runs from March 19 to December 3. Our opening dates and times are shown on the calendar.
Special Events
We hold a number of special events during the year. Seven events are taking place this year
all of which make for a great day out.
Group visits
Visits for Schools, Colleges, Clubs and other groups can be arranged outside normal opening times during our season.

10 Easter Egg Trail
An Easter-themed day with quizs and chocolate eggs for the youngsters plus free rides on our vehicles from the museum. 11am - 4pm
7 51st Ipswich - Felixstowe Vehicle Run
The premier road run in East Anglia! Over 600 vehicles gather in Christchurch Park and depart at 11.00 for display on Felixstowe Promenade from noon. A magnificent spectacle - free to visit and watch at either end or en-route!
17 Transport & Model Festival
Four great attractions on one inclusive ticket - the Transport Museum, Ipswich Plastic Modellers (IPMS), The Ipswich Railway Modellers Association HQ & the Ipswich Model Engineering Society. A free bus service links the sites and the Ipswich Model Railway Centre using historic vehicles. Inclusive ‘all attractions’ Adult ticket £15.00, accompanied children £1. Normal admission if entering museum only.
23 Ipswich Buses 120th Birthday
Celebrate 120 years of municipal public transport in Ipswich with a "green bus" themed day with rides on historic Ipswich buses. 11am - 4pm
Event cancelled. Monday 28th August - Ride a Fire Engine Day 11am-4pm
Due to a lack of operational vehicles, we have had unfortunately to cancel this event so normal entry fees will apply. If we manage to get a fire engine operational, then we will still be giving rides. We apologise for any disappointment caused.
29 Come Ride on our Buses
We've decided to squeeze in an additional Special Event. We'll be offering half-hourly Museum heritage bus rides to and from the Town Centre using some of our former Ipswich Corporation/Borough Transport buses and hope to have a visiting bus or two. Bus rides free, special event admission charges will apply to enter the museum. No need to book but note car parking will be limited to on-street around the museum. 11am - 4pm

Dec 3 The Christmas Cracker
A festive family themed event. Decorations, lights and entertainment in the museum help get you in the Christmas mood. Ride on Museum vehicles then meet Santa in his grotto. 11am - 4pm
(Entry to the grotto is £1 extra, which includes a gift).
